Tonight: Three Shows

Choices Large

There are three shows tonight which I can recommend.  It might be possible to see the two shows at the two different Rockwood stages, but that will require really paying heed to the clock.

Over in Brooklyn, Megan Reilly  will play Union Hall.  Her last record, The Well, is flat out wonderful.  Originally from Memphis, Megan has lived in both New York City and Philadelphia before settling in suburban New Jersey.  Of course none of that tell you about Megan’s music.  Call it rock with a psychedelic tinge and Megan’s ethereal vocals.  Real rock, no acoustic guitars or stand up basses here.  And Megan’s band is made up of top notch area musicians: James Mastro on guitar, Tony Maimone on bass and Steve Goulding on drums.  It appears that Megan will be the second act to play in a show that starts at 8pm.  Call the club if you need an exact time here.

Back in Manhattan on the Lower East Side at the original stage of The Rockwood Music Hall, at 9pm, you’ll find Mieka Pauley.  Mieka had taken some time off from performing over the last few months, but she’s back at The Rockwood every Friday this month.  Mieka is an incisive writer, a powerful singer and a fine blues guitarist, and  whether she is singing her own songs or playing a few choice covers, you’ll find yourself moved by her performance.  So whether you’ve seen Mieka before or she is new to you, this is a great show to see.

Then, at 10pm around the block at Rockwood Stage 3, the debut of The Allie, Bess and Hannah Harmony Extravaganza.  Former Secret Someones Hannah Winker and Bess Rogers will be joined by long time musical associate Allie Moss.  The group promises “an entire night of harmonies harmonies and more harmonies. We’ll be doing some originals and some covers, all in 3 part harmony bliss!”  You might want to get your tickets in advance for this one as it has a chance of selling out.

Megan Reilly, Union Hall, 702 Union Street near the corner of 5th Avenue (R Train to Union Street), doors 7:30pm /show 8pm, $10

Mieka Pauley, Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 9pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the band is highly recommended)

The Allie, Bess and Hannah Harmony Extravaganza, Rockwood Stage 3, 185 Orchard Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 10pm, $10, with a two drink minimum
